Jon McCormack is a photographer whose work is deeply informed by an upbringing in the vast, elemental landscapes of the Australian Outback. Raised in western Queensland, he worked with sheep and cattle across immense tracts of land where drought and abundance, resilience and fragility, were not abstract concepts but lived experience. This early immersion forged a lasting reverence for the natural world and an acute sensitivity to its rhythms.

He began photographing the Australian bush as a teenager, drawn not to spectacle but to quiet, often-overlooked moments of tenderness within a harsh landscape. These formative years shaped a photographic voice grounded in patience, close attention, and a profound sense of ecological empathy.

Now based in Northern California, McCormack’s work explores the intricate patterns and emotional textures of wild places around the globe. His images seek to awaken both wonder and responsibility—inviting viewers to recognize beauty while confronting the urgency of conservation. His photographs are widely published and are frequently used by global conservation organizations to advocate for the protection of fragile ecosystems.

His work has been featured by leading media and conservation organizations including National Geographic, The Times, TIME, The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, UNESCO, The Nature Conservancy, Africa Geographic, Conservation International, The Guardian, CNN, and The Telegraph, He was also featured on the NPR television series Eco-Sense for Living. His latest book Patterns – Art of the Natural World (Damiani, 2026) has been named as an Official Selection in the International Photography Awards.

Beyond his photographic practice, McCormack is deeply involved in conservation and exploration communities. He is a member of The Explorers Club, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a founding board member of SeaLegacy, and a co-founder of The Kilgoris Project, which supports education in rural Kenya.
