World.Report Award 2017 – Jury

The members chosen reflect our dedication to the highest selection process and our desire to give photographers visibility among some of the best professionals in the field of photography.

Stéphane Arnaud is Agence France-Presse (AFP) Photo Editor in Chief.

Stéphane, 45, began his career in the photo department of French daily newspaper Libération and at the Imapress photo agency before joining AFP as a photo editor in May 2000. With a master’s degree in history and a diploma from the École Supérieure de Journalisme in Paris, Stéphane became deputy editor-in-chief for photo in charge of Image Forum (the AFP photo platform) in 2005. In January 2015, Stéphane became head of photo for Europe and held this post until being named photo Editor in Chief in September 2016.

Michael Weir has been Director of the Belfast Photo Festival since 2009.

He initiated as well as curated numerous commissions on exhibitions of contemporary art with a particular focus on photography. In his role he curates the varied programme of artist talks, symposiums, residencies, workshops, short films and exhibitions per year.

He has been recently nominated for The Infinity Awards at the International Centre of Photography (New York) and judged for the 2016 Circulations Photography Festival (Paris).

He also works and reviews internationally having recently worked for Magnum Photos (New York) and reviewed at Young Art Taipei (Taiwan), Les Rencontres d’Arles (France), Singapore International Photography Festival (Singapore), East Wing (Dubai) and Chobi Mela (Bangladesh). He has delivered exhibitions/events in collaboration with a range of organisations and artists, including major organisations such as HBO and artists such as Ai Wei Wei and Alec Soth.

Oxana Oleinik is Head of the editorial photo desk at Sputnik Agency since 2014.

She has a profound experience in photo editing.
During her professional career she has worked in various positions:

– Head of the Photo Service at Moskovskiye Novosti (2013-2014).
– Head of the Photo Service at snob.ru (2008).
– Photo editor at Kommersant Publishing Company (2001-2007).
– Editor of the books “Andrei Stenin. Conflict Zone” and a four-volume anthology work titled “75 years. History Begins with the News”.
– Supervisor of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest since 2015.

Alberto Prina has co-ordinated its annual Festival of Ethical Photography since he created it.

Even though passionate about philosophy and with photography always on his mind, graduated in physics.
Yet, he could not postpone his longing anymore and now he fills his days with images.
He founded the photo association Gruppo Fotografico Progetto Immagine and has co-ordinated its annual Festival of Ethical Photography since he created it.
He currently works as a reportage photographer and photojournalist, developing projects in the field of photographic communication, multimedia and collaborative photography. He also organizes courses and workshops.
He has been following with great interest the political situation in the city of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and the irish society.

Aldo Mendichi has been the President of the Gruppo Fotografico Progetto Immagine since 2013.

His passion for photography started in 2004. Since the very beginning, his interest has focused on social reportage photography.
After having attended several photography courses in 2007 he started a documentary project about the Northern Ireland question, “The Troubles”. He collaborated with Alberto Prina in the organization of several themed workshops, dedicated to photography instruction in the field of social photoreportage.

Since 2010, he has been one of the coordinators of the Festival of Ethical Photography together with Alberto Prina. He has been a member of the jury for the World.Report Award (the festival prize) from 2011 to 2016. He recently participated as a member of the 2016 international jury for the Stenin Prize in Moscow.

He is also a member of the editorial staff of Ludesan Life (www.ludesanlife.it) an online magazine which tells stories related to the province of Lodi, created by the Gruppo Fotografico Progetto Immagine.
